Bird Biology
Fourth grade works with the New York Audubon Society to learn about the local beach nesting birds in our community. After studying the different birds in the classroom, we talk about the dangers these threatened species face everyday because we share the shore with them.
Students then design informational signs in the art room. These signs are used by the Town of Hempstead to protect the birds nesting areas and inform beachgoers how they can do their part to protect our feathered friends.

Share the Shore
Fourth grade students stand with local council woman to present their “share the Shore” signs for the local beaches

Even during Distant learning, fourth grade was able to learn about the shore birds and their habitats.

Biomes
Seventh grade studies the different biomes in the science lab and talks about the principles of design and the element of texture in the art room.
combining all of this knowledge the students work as a team to create different biomes using textures to represent landforms in each unique environment. This biome depicts the tundra.

Computer Art
Students in Kindergarten explore the world of graphic design using an art program on the school iPads.

Graphic Design Self Portrait
Fourth grade students create self portraits using the Doodle app on the school ipads.

Paper Making
Students learn the process of making paper and explore the different materials they can add to their own recycled paper.

Color Matching
Sixth grade students were given the challenge to try and mix the correct ratio of primary colors in order to match the color swatch they chose.
Sixth grade has talked about ratios in their math class for several years, and understand the concept of percentages to make a whole. Taking that mathematical concept into the art room students began to look at how much of each primary color they needed to create their match.

Attachments
Second grade students are introduced to engineering terms through three dimensional sculpture materials.
Here are some students projects that show the different attachments they can use in future 3D construction projects.

Second Grade Three Dimensional Texture Maps
In second grade students learn how to read a map using a compass. They also learn about the different types of land forms and bodies of water.
Here we took those concepts discussed in the science room and brought them to our three dimensional map project. After learning about the Element of Texture (the way something feels) students talked about how each texture can represent a different landform or body of water. Using those textures and our understanding of maps students created their own 3D maps.
Furthering this project students learned how to use coding methods to move around their maps.

Stop Motion Animation
Fifth grade students learn techniques and terms used in making stop motion animation movies. After learning about Frames per Second or FPS and how many FPS are needed to create smooth transitions in their films.
Here students are working on moving their movies. Each student has a job as photographer, mover, time keeper, and set/character designer.

Geometric Faces
Kindergarten students use geometric shapes to create different designs like the face this student is working on.

Plover Paintings
Students studied the life and habitat of local nesting piping plover birds in Atlantic Beach NY. Each student created a painting using observation the shape and design of these birds.

Kaleidoscope Construction
Students used mirrored paper and reclaimed beads to create kaleidoscopes after studying patterns, colors, and their relationship to light.

Studying Light and Shadows
Using a projector students explored the way light changes when you place different objects in front of the light.
